PokéSurvivor type chart: matchups and weather

The type chart you know, softened for a game where you only ever have one active move. This is the full 18×18 grid plus the five weather states that rewrite it mid-run.

The four rules that explain everything

  • Super effective is ×1.6, not ×2

The main games double your damage; PokéSurvivor multiplies by 1.6. A good matchup still matters enormously, but it is no longer an instant win.

  • Resisted is ×0.6

A resisted attack still does damage, which is what makes the chart safe to ignore in an emergency and worth respecting when you have a choice.

  • Immunities become ×0.3

Nothing is truly immune. Ghost against Normal was a zero in the main series; here it is 0.3, so the immunity puzzles of the original games are gone.

  • Dual types multiply up to ×2.4

Two multipliers apply and the result is capped: ×1.6 × 1.6 = ×2.56 becomes ×2.4. The same holds defensively, so a dual-type partner never has a truly fatal weakness.

Five ways to use this in a real run

  1. 1

Pick your opening move by column, not by habit

Before you commit to a card, check what the arena is throwing at you. A move that is super effective against the current enemy type is worth more than a move with better raw numbers.

  2. 2

    Use the defensive direction

If you play a dual-type partner, read your own column: those are the types that will hurt. It tells you which ground markers to respect most.

  3. 3

    Plan around the cap

Because weaknesses cap at ×2.4, a double weakness is survivable. Do not reject a partner for having one.

  4. 4

    Remember immunities are only ×0.3

Do not build a strategy around being immune to something. At ×0.3 the damage still arrives, just slowly.

  5. 5

    Re-check after the weather changes

Rain, sun, sand, snow and fog all shift which types are strong. A run can change shape mid-way through without you picking a different card.

Worked example

Suppose a Fire and Flying partner takes an Electric hit. Electric is ×1.6 against Fire? No — Fire resists Electric at ×0.6. But Electric is ×1.6 against Flying. Multiply the two: 0.6 × 1.6 = 0.96, so the hit lands roughly neutrally. That is the whole trick: single-type intuitions break on dual types, and the chart is the only reliable answer.

Run the same arithmetic on offence. A Water move against a Rock and Ground target is 1.6 × 1.6 = 2.56, capped down to ×2.4 — the best multiplier the game allows, and the reason a good matchup against a dual-type boss is worth reorganising your whole build for.

Weather overrides the chart

Weather applies on top of type matchups for the duration of the state, and it can turn a comfortable fight into a bad one without changing a single card in your build.

All 18 types

Each type has its own page with its offensive and defensive matchups, every move of that type, its rift arena and the partners that use it.

Type chart questions

Why is the PokéSurvivor type chart different from the official one?

Because you only ever control one active move and cannot swap partners mid-fight, the original 2× multipliers were too punishing. Softening them to 1.6 / 0.6 / 0.3 keeps matchups meaningful without letting a single bad draw end a run.

Does the type chart apply to enemy attacks too?

Yes, it works symmetrically. Your attacks are weakened by resistant enemies, and enemy attacks are weakened by your partner's type.

What is the highest multiplier possible?

×2.4. It comes from two super effective multipliers stacked on a dual-type target, capped down from ×2.56.

Which type is best?

There is no best type, because your build also has to clear crowds and survive movement hazards. What there is, is a best answer to a specific arena — and that is what the per-type pages are for.

Do weather effects stack with type matchups?

They apply on top of them. Boosted types get stronger and weakened types get weaker for as long as the weather lasts, independently of the chart.

Is there an immune type interaction I should rely on?

No. Immunities only reduce damage to ×0.3, so no combination of types makes you safe from anything.
